The city of Asheville is located in Buncombe County, North Carolina located in the western part of the state. It is considered the seat since it is the largest city in Western North Carolina, and the 12th largest city in North Carolina. The city’s population was about 90,000, according to the 2016 United States census. It sits in Buncombe County which has a population of 258,000 in 2017. It is growing at about 2% per year. Our crime rates are below the national average.
It is home to America’s largest privately owned residence, The Biltmore Estate, with 250 rooms. Built in 1895 by George and Edith Vanderbilt, of the famous railroad wealth family, the house and grounds are stunning!
Our medical industry is thriving! Western North Carolina’s largest employer is Mission Hospital employing over 3000 people. There several other large hospitals in the area as well. People retire here for some of the best medical services in the country.
The weather allows for 4-seasons and is temperate. Because we are higher in altitude, the humidity in the summer is mild in comparison to the rest of the state and in the South.
